Carrying out an air tightness blower door test is a cost effective way to minimise unwanted air leakage, reduce heat loss and save energy. A blower door is a powerful fan that mounts into the frame of an exterior door. The fan blows air into the building, increasing the air pressure inside. The building is pressurized to 50 Pa and the air flow is measured. This allows the air infiltration rate and heat loss through air infiltration to be calculated. Carrying out a blower door test during construction will identify leaks which can be sealed to ensure that the building is air tight. Leaks are found using a smoke pencil or other diagnostic tool.
Energy Solutions provide certified air tightness test reports to EN13829 for residential and small commercial buildings.
