Many electricity users can avail of simple zero investment cost savings on electricity through a review of tariffs and fixed charges. Electricity users who are paying for more capacity than they need can now reduce their Maximum Import Capacity (MIC) and related charges free of charge.

Due to the large volumes of customers switching electricity supplier, deregulation of the Large Energy Users and Medium & Small Business Markets is scheduled for the 1st October 2010. Full deregulation of Ireland's electricity market is due to occur in early 2011 when sufficient rates of customer switching have occurred in the domestic market.

Top Japanese carmakers, Toyota and Nissan helped set up a group to standardize fast-charge stations for electric cars in a bid to promote the spread of the zero-emission vehicles. The group, led by Japan's biggest utility, Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO), Toyota Motor Corp, Nissan Motor Co, Mitsubishi Motors Corp and Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd, will set a standard for Japan and later aim for an international standard.
